Putin seeks everlasting solution in war with Ukraine
“These attempts by the West are a direct threat to Russian security,” Putin told the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. He argued that the crisis “did not arise due to an invasion but due to a coup d’etat in Kyiv,” which he attributed to Western influence.
"We must ensure that the Ukrainian crisis is resolved on a long-term and sustainable basis by addressing the root causes of the crisis," he added.
Following his recent face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Putin said he had shared the outcomes of that summit—which he described as an attempt to “open a road to peace in Ukraine”—with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also stated that Russia will review proposals on Ukraine put forward by China and India.
Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting in Tianjin on Monday. Russia’s “special military operation” against Ukraine, launched in February 2022, has continued since, causing thousands of deaths and displacing millions.
